Los números ordinales en inglés, al igual que los números ordinales en español, indican el orden o la posición de algo en relación con otros números.
Los números ordinales en inglés del 1 al 10 son:
- First (primero)
- Second (segundo)
- Third (tercero)
- Fourth (cuarto)
- Fifth (quinto)
- Sixth (sexto)
- Seventh (séptimo)
- Eighth (octavo)
- Ninth (noveno)
- Tenth (décimo)
- This is my first trip to Mexico. (Este es mi primer viaje a México)
- Paul is fifth on the list. (Paul es el quinto de la lista)
Números ordinales en inglés: formación
Los primeros tres números ordinales son irregulares:
- First (primero)
- Second (segundo)
- Third (tercero)
A partir de este, los números ordinales se forman añadiendo la terminación “-th” al número cardinal. Así, por ejemplo, el ordinal de “four” es fourth (cuarto), el de “six” es sixth (sexto) o el de “seven” es seventh (séptimo).
Algunos números ordinales en inglés sufren algunas modificaciones. Por ejemplo, el ordinal de “five” (cinco) es “fifth” y no “fiveth*” o el de “twelve” (doce) es “twelfth” y no “twelveth*”.
Los números ordinales de las decenas a partir de “twenty” (veinte) cambian la “y” por “i” antes de la terminación “-th”: “twentieth”, “thirtieth”, “fortieth”…
Las decenas (“twenty”, “thirty”, “forty”…) se unen a las unidades por medio de un guion.
- He is a great writer. He won the first prize. (Es un gran escritor. Ganó el primer premio).
“First” (primer / primero) es un número ordinal irregular, pues no se forma añadiendo “-th” al número cardinal correspondiente (“one”).
- I live on the seventh floor. (Vivo en el séptimo piso)
El número ordinal correspondiente a “seven” (siete) es “seventh” (séptimo).

Números ordinales en inglés: usos
Los números ordinales en inglés se utilizan para expresar, entre otros:
